I remember a former preacher announcing from the pulpit, “People sin because sin is fun.” Indulging the flesh is often pleasurable. It’s the consequences that can bring the unpleasant side of sin. God sent Jesus, His Son and His Light, to take the penalty for sin for all of mankind. As we’ve already established, not all of mankind will accept the gift of salvation. They’d rather satisfy self through various means—accumulating wealth even if it involves participating in illegal activities; engaging in self-destructive behavior even it it involves the deterioration of their own health; speaking untruths to gain power even if it involves trampling others… I could go on, but you get the picture. We like our “sin.” But our Father God, in His infinite wisdom, knows that no sin will ever satisfy our deepest longings. Only He can fill us at the very core of our being. When we finally see the Light and receive the Light, we are changed from the inside out. We know true joy and fulfillment that lasts into eternity. That’s a whole lot better than any “fun” this world offers.
