When I was a little girl, my step-grandma kept a painted plaque on her bedroom wall. It said “Only one life will soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last.” When I seek my own interests, I might enjoy a temporary satisfaction. But when I seek His interests—when I am about His business—I discover a deep-down satisfaction that cannot be explained or taken away. Those things we do that are for Him and for His glory create an eternal impact! Selfishness abounds in this world, but I don’t have to take part. Store up treasure in heaven, Mom used to say with a smile in her eyes that spoke of pure contentment. (Mom was a smart lady.)
