This is a strong statement, isn’t it? It can make a person sit back and think, “Whoa…” But it’s an important statement. There are many people who think they’re okay because they believe in a “higher power.” That’s basically belief in a creed rather than personal trust in a Savior. In other words, they are still lost. A vague belief in A god isn’t the same as a relationship with THE God, which comes through faith in Christ. These people didn’t show in the way they lived that God and His created beings (meaning other people) were important to them. Demons know without a doubt God is real—they’re busy fighting against Him!—but they certainly don’t worship or serve Him. They have no relationship with Him…and neither did these people who had the words right but lacked works. Head knowledge and heart acceptance are two very different things. Heart acceptance leads to heart change, which reflects the reality of salvation.
