I would venture a guess that most people don’t “delight” themselves in what they perceive as “rules.” Rules can feel restrictive, leaving us wanting to break free. But the thing is, most rules are put in place not to squelch us but to protect us. This is especially true of God’s statutes. He knows what is best for us. He knows that unpleasant consequences follow sinful behavior. He knows regret can weigh us down and rob us of meaningful relationships, peace, or happiness. If we choose to remember His word (see Ps. 119:11 again), and we choose to obey His word, we will experience the delight of a life unencumbered by sin’s damage and decay. A loving parent provides guidelines; God is the most loving Parent. You can trust that He wants the best for you.
