This statement was spoken by Peter on the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on those who believed Jesus was the Christ. Peter had seen with his own eyes the risen Christ, so he could testify to it. Sometimes I wish I could have lived when Jesus lived. Imagine being a witness to Jesus emerging from that tomb! I love that we have the written word of eye-witness accounts of Jesus returning from the dead. There can be no argument that Jesus died and rose again because people saw Him with their own eyes…alive, bearing the scars of His crucifixion. Maybe people living in this century haven’t seen the risen Jesus with their eyes, but they’ve seen the change He brings to a human heart. I saw someone wearing a t-shirt with the most wonderful message, referring to Jesus: “I was one way, and now I’m completely different. And the thing that happened in between was Him.” Jesus changes people from the inside out. No one can dispute your personal testimony of what Jesus has done for you. I pray that those who know Him are as bold as Peter in proclaiming His reality. People need to see the Lord.
