To “participate” means to involve yourself or become an accomplice in an activity. “Works” are activities. God calls us to works of moral integrity and rightness; fruitless works are actions that don’t reflect God’s laws and character. When we see fruitless works performed, we have an obligation to expose those works—to convict the perpetrator about the sinfulness of the choice. Why? Because if we don’t, we’re saying it’s okay for them to remain in darkness. Nothing could be further from the truth! We ALL need to be in right relationship with God the Father or risk eternal condemnation. We ALL need a Savior (Romans 3:23—“for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”). How unloving to knowingly and deliberately leave people separated from the Father. Those of us who know Jesus should never keep Him to ourselves. Remember the children’s song: “This little Light of mine…I’m gonna let it shine.” Yes, let Him shine!
