It isn’t easy to be a Christian in today’s society. It wasn’t easy to be a Christian for those who followed Jesus when He lived on earth, either. The world was wicked and hostile, and Jesus was sending them out to confront people’s lostness. They had no army backup, no cooperative government, no endless financial support. Even so, He didn’t send them out alone. They would go with the indwelling of His Spirit. Emmanuel—God with us!—would stay with them and give them the strength they needed. The same Spirit is present with believers today as we serve Him, and He always will be. It’s His promise, and He keeps His promises.
