Before we knew Christ, we were dead. I’m not speaking of the physical body here, but the spiritual body. We are born with a sin nature, therefore spiritually dead. Romans 6:11 says, “So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” Spiritually speaking, when we receive Christ as Savior, we’ve died with Christ to sin and have been raised to walk in newness of life (see Romans 8:3-4). No longer a slave to sin and its consequence (separation from God), we are given over to righteousness—we’re free from sin and can enter eternal life. Eternal life begins the moment we’re saved, because it represents being in God’s presence. While our physical bodies breathe, we have His Spirit’s constant company; when our physical bodies die, we will be with God the Father forever and ever and ever. Such an incredible gift He offers through salvation—freedom now and forevermore!
