Genesis 1:1 begins the creation story. The Bible tells us that everything God made was good. But now a tempter enters the Garden of Eden…and he was cunning. He doesn’t come right out and challenge God’s word, but he casts doubt: “Did God really say…?” And then he misrepresents God’s actual words, which was that Adam and Eve were free to eat from any tree in the garden, except one. This is the way the evil one works. He twists God’s instruction, which is given for our benefit, and he tempts us to question the validity of the Bible. The written Word of God, inspired by God, is the Book that should guide His most valued creation, meaning man. It’s fine to ask questions in order to understand better, but asking questions from an attitude of distrust in God or God’s word is a dangerous pastime. He not only gave us the Bible, He gave us the indwelling of His Spirit, who will help us understand the written Word and apply it to our lives. God made us. He loves us. Therefore, obeying His authority is our best choice for abundant living.
