The New Living Bible translates this verse to “Those who love your laws have great peace of heart and mind and do not stumble.” When we love something, we protect it, do we not? If we love God’s law (His Word), then we should want to guard it. We should hide it in our hearts. We should seek to follow it rather than follow man’s ways. If we truly love His Word, we will follow its guidelines. Peace comes to those who lie down at night without regrets weighing their conscience. My favorite Psalm, 139, ends with this plea: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way. (HCSB)” What a beautiful prayer to offer each day, because it will lead us to a place of peace.
