Seek and follow

Elsewhere in Timothy’s letters, he writes of man’s penchant for wanting their ears “tickled.” Boy, isn’t that the truth? None of us like to be told we’re doing something wrong. We balk against accepting responsibility for our poor choices. But, frankly, until we’re able to openly confess that we need a Savior and repent of our wrongdoings, we have no eternal hope. Having our ears tickled by flowery speech and sweet pats on the head might feel good in the moment, but our “moment” will end when our physical body wears out. Hearing the truth benefits us for eternity, which is of much great importance than our temporary physical life. So how can we know if we’re getting our ears tickled or being taught the truth? It’s simple—turn to God’s Word. Everything He wants us to know is found within those pages. His Spirit will enlighten us if we listen for His voice. Being worldly to be accepted by the world might be easier for the short-term, but it will do little to benefit us for eternity. Let us strive to seek and follow God over anything the world offers.
