Overcome

I don’t know of any loving parents who set their children up for failure, but I do know many loving parents who allow their children to suffer the consequences of their actions. Facing the consequences of choices helps us make better choices in the future. God, as the most perfect and loving Father, knows and wants what is best for His children. He doesn’t tempt us to sin; He instructs us how to avoid sin and forgives us when we come to Him in repentance. (By the way, repentance isn’t just saying, “I’m sorry”; it’s changing our behavior.) He does, however, allow us to make our own choices. It’s our choice to give in to temptation, which means it’s our choice to suffer the consequences of our poor decisions. We are faced with many temptations every day—the temptation to tell an untruth, to lose our temper, to treat someone with disdain or impatience or apathy—but we don’t have to give in to those temptations. We have a Counselor who guides and directs us. If we seek His voice, we make better decisions. We better reflect the Son. Trials will come. It’s part of living in a sin-fallen world. But we can overcome, thanks to the Blood of the Lamb!
