Have you ever considered how many messages we receive in a day? Television commercials, internet popups, social media, email, billboards… All these different sources tell us what to buy, what to think, what to do, where to go, even what to be. It’s so easy to be distracted and eventually lose focus of what is true, necessary, beneficial, and—most important of all!—eternal. God’s Word is our best source for staying grounded in what matters most.
When we see the plea “deal bountifully,” we might think of receiving an abundance of benefits, and we’d be right…if we’re thinking of spiritual benefits. *wink* The psalmist is asking God to help him stay obedient to His Word so he might grow in faith and remain in faith. The psalmist wanted to immerse himself in the Word of the Lord so he could learn more about the Lord. The more we know the Lord, we closer we grow to Him; the closer we grow to Him, the more we reflect Him to those around us. The Bible isn’t some ancient, out-of-date religious text. Oh no, it is holy inspired truth shared and preserved by our Creator. To know God on a personal level is to know life as He intended it for us. Keeping His Word benefits us more than anything else ever will.
