Into His likeness

Have you ever read The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis? It’s a very thought-provoking read. Uncle Screwtape advised his nephew demon, Wormwood, on how to interfere with a Christian’s relationship with Jesus. Some of his favorite tools were discouragement and doubt. The devil works to make us wonder if God really loves us or if we’re really saved. When we look at ourselves and how imperfect we are, we might lose confidence. But this verse reminds us that our salvation isn’t dependent on us. Our assurance depends on God’s character, which is faithful. Because He is faithful and never-changing, He welcomes and forgives anyone who throws himself on His mercy. When doubt sneaks in, we look at the facts of who He is and what He gives rather than relying on our fickle feelings of the moment. Yes, we are imperfect, but we are loved by a perfect God who is molding us daily into His likeness. We can rest confidently in that truth.
