In the beginning was Love

One of the first books in the New Testament starts, “In the beginning…”, and it shares God’s creation of the world and mankind. The first book of the New Testament begins in similar fashion, giving reference to One who was there before time began. In other words, One who was not made/created by God. That One is God’s Son, Jesus. Generally when we say we’re with someone, we’re talking about proximity. This “with” goes much deeper. Jesus was with God, meaning He was distinct from God, but one with Him in personal relationship. They were one in unity and purpose and ability. Not only was Jesus with God—united with Him—He was God. Fully God, yet fully distinct from God. Seems impossible, doesn’t it? But elsewhere in Scripture we read that nothing is impossible for God. In the beginning was the Word…the Christ who would sacrifice Himself for God’s created: the sinful, needy, lost mankind. Our salvation was already in place before WE were in place. We can say in the beginning was Love.
