Hold tight to Him

John gave us a wonderful reminder that should make our hearts flutter with joy and anticipation: if we know Jesus, then we have eternal life with God. Leaving this world behind only means stepping into paradise with the One who loves and saved us. Then John gave a warning: guard yourselves. While we’re in this world, we will face hardship and temptation. Those hardships and temptations can pull us away from our faith if we don’t guard our hearts and minds. Isaiah 26:3 is one of the most encouraging Scripture, in my opinion, when it comes to battling discouragement and despair. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. (KJV)” My mom and I sang, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face; and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace,” again and again during her last hospitalization. Where we place our focus is so important. Focusing on Him won’t calm every storm, but it will calm His child. Hold tight to Him. Today’s hardships are temporary; our relationship with Him is eternal.
