Eternal blessing

A couple of Sundays ago during morning worship, we sang, “This world is not my home, I’m just a-passing through…” If you’re a Christian, that is so true. We are strangers and aliens in this place. We can’t get too attached to the world. It’s fading away; everything about it is temporary. But our spiritual life? That part of us is eternal. That part of us needs nurturing and growth and attention. Those things we do for God this side of Glory have eternal meaning. The song goes on, “My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.” The treasures laid up in heaven will last forever—treasures of kind deeds and prayers offered and sacrifices made. The smallest kindness done in Jesus’ name bears great weight in the light of eternity. The only life lived in vain is one lived solely for self. Those who do the Father’s will find eternal blessing.
