When I was a child and the preacher spoke about the crucifixion, I sang songs inside my head to drown out his words. I had a very active imagination, and my tender heart couldn’t bear to imagine the pain and torment inflicted upon Someone so undeserving of that treatment. Even as an adult, I cringe when someone goes into the details of all Jesus suffered. But if He hadn’t gone to the cross, I would not be able to stand blameless before the throne of God. If He hadn’t gone to the cross, we wouldn’t know the deepest meaning of grace. If He hadn’t been crucified, buried, and raised from the grave, there would be no assurance of salvation.
Jesus stood in front of those people who’d been taught the Scriptures about the coming Messiah, and they failed to recognize Him. I pray that none go to their grave without first having met, recognized, and received Jesus. Are you praying for the lost?
