Rahab knew destruction was coming. The God of the Israelites would unseat Jericho’s king just as He had destroyed kings on the other side of the Jordan. God who gave the Israelites victory was the God who could keep Rahab safe when the Israelites marched on the city. She knew this in the depth of her heart, and she placed herself and her family into the keeping of that God. She asked for kindness in return for the kindness she had extended to them. The meaning behind “kindness” here is very important. It references loyal, covenant love between two parties. She asked for an oath that these men would be loyal to her and save her family from the coming destruction.
Rahab trusted these men because she trusted the One who had sent them. Her healthy fear of God brought her to this place of courage. Is there something in your life that you need to entrust to the power of God? I pray your awe will give you the courage to put your whole self and all you hold dear into His keeping.
