A God-focused life

Psalm 119, with 176 verses, is the longest chapter in the Bible. Several years ago, I went through it and studied one verse per day. It took a long time to reach the end! I’d like to hit a few of its high points throughout the summer months, starting with verse one. Living a blameless life is nigh on impossible, my mom often said, but if you seek the Word and make a determined effort to follow God’s instruction, you can come mighty close even while garbed in human skin. The happiest people I’ve ever met were those who most closely walked with the Lord. Were their lives free of sorrow or pain? No. Not a one of them. Yet they possessed a joy beyond explanation. Their faces shone—you could SEE they had something different. I can’t help but believe the shine of joy stemmed from their determination to keep God’s instruction central in their lives. The closer to we follow His Word, the less likely we are to find in ourselves in situations that mire us in bitter consequences and regret. A blameless life in this sin-filled world might not be possible, but a God-focused life is a wonderful aspiration.
