Authors get a lot of reviews. Some reviews are good; some reviews are not. I’ve been told any review is a “good” review because it means someone’s reading and talking about the book; a negative review might be the very impetus that leads a new reader to take a peek. Paul seems to be addressing this issue when he tells his readers that although some people were speaking of Christ for their own selfish ambition (to further themselves), it’s still good because Christ’s name was being proclaimed. His name has power. His name is truth. His name leads to salvation. When we hear His name being spoken inappropriately, we can say, “He’s my Savior. He loved me enough to die for me. Please respect His name.” Every utterance of His name is an opportunity to plant seeds or lead someone to life-change. Seize the opportunity. People need to truly know our living Lord.
