In the Spirit

Romans is such an incredible book in its entirety, but if you want to know how to walk the Christian walk, Romans 8 is the chapter to read. It is true that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer. Once we’ve accepted Christ as Savior and Lord, we have an ever-present Helper and Strength-giver and Comforter who guides us on life’s pathways. He helps us cast off the old nature of living for self and grow ever more into Christ-likeness, transforming our thoughts, desires, emotions, and actions. To be “in the Spirit” is to be in communion with God, dependent on Him through the indwelling Spirit’s power. In this single verse we see the truth of the Trinity—God the Father, God the Son, God the Spirit. Each play a role in our redemption: God the Father sent the Son; God the Son died on the cross and rose again, giving us victory over death; and God the Spirit resides within us and helps us live holy lives that bear testimony to our redemption. Wow! There’s a lot of “punch” in these 35 words!
