When I was a little girl, I would get so mad at trees. I thought if they would just hold still, the wind wouldn’t blow so hard (yes, I thought trees were giant fans). I couldn’t see the wind, but I could see its result—the waving trees, my toys being tossed across the lawn, the dirt being blown in my face. Just as we cannot see the wind but only its result, we cannot see the Holy Spirit. But we do see His effect. We see it in lives that are transformed. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new. (KJV)” There is the effect! All things—attitudes, self-defeating thoughts and feelings, selfish or ugly behavior, inability to love—changes. Because now we have a Helper who molds us into the image of our Savior. And those changes let us testify to God’s amazing grace. What a joy and privilege!
